Unpacking Crypto: Why Cryptocurrency Firms Are Banking On Miami
For months, companies in the crypto and blockchain space have either relocated their headquarters or established a presence in the Miami area, with most citing Miami Mayor Suarez’s enthusiastic support for the sector as a major draw. Case in point: Miami recently became the first U.S. city to launch its own digital currency, MiamiCoin, which aims to earn proceeds to fund city services. For many in the industry, it was a signal that Florida – and Miami, in particular – could be the next frontier for the fast-growing sector. The influx of new crypto ventures, investors and flagship events seems to confirm that vision, a trend that city leaders hope will result in long-term job gains and cement Miami as a center for cryptocurrency technology and innovation.

South Florida City Takes Plunge Into The Metaverse
A South Florida city is taking the plunge into a whole new digital world. Miami Gardens’ metaverse is believed to be the first of its kind for a South Florida city. It’s crafted in partnership with South Florida marketing and advertising firm The Mosaic Group and streaming platform Ceek Metaverse, which allows users to move through virtual worlds. “So this was an opportunity to bring a new idea of innovation, technology that Miami Gardens is not just going to talk about being in tech, we’re going to be in tech,” Mosaic Group CEO Ann Marie Sorrell said. “So that’s how this whole Metaverse was tied into the campaign: ‘It’s where you want to be.’”

Crypto Executives Really Want Voters To Care About Crypto
The crypto industry is constantly trying to sell us something new. This election season, it’s the rise of the bitcoin voter, a new political constituency supposedly ready to vote for all things pro-crypto. The Crypto Council for Innovation, a pro-crypto trade group that represents platforms like Fidelity and Gemini, published data last Wednesday purportedly indicating that one in seven voters “hold crypto and say that they are ready to vote for pro-crypto candidates.” This is all in service of the notion that, one day, there could be a large contingent of voters who support pro-crypto candidates through their donations and ballots. To be clear, it’s still early days. The people behind the big campaign to mobilize crypto voters told Recode that the upcoming midterms are essentially a practice round, though the eventual goal is to develop a voting bloc that’s primed to vote in the interest of the crypto industry.
