Miami's Tech Scene Keeps Growing: Here Are Eleven Companies Who Recently Moved Their HQ To South Florida
There has been a steady migration of wealthy households and well-paid professionals to the South Florida region, brokers and developers have told the Business Journal. Along with them came an influx of companies, corporations, and firms that signed leases for new offices and facilities in the tri-county area. These new lease deals are typically satellite offices for companies based elsewhere. In other cases, companies opted to relocate their regional or main corporate headquarters from other parts of the U.S. to South Florida. Here are some notable examples of headquarters relocations to the tri-county area within the past year, in no particular order.

Climate Tech Is A Hot Investment In 2022, Next Five Years Could Be Hotter
Despite whispers of a downturn earlier this year, investors continue to express confidence in climate tech. Though numbers are down compared with 2021, a year that many agree is an outlier in the VC world, they’re on track to beat 2020 as the second hottest year for investment. What’s more, deal counts and values were up in the second quarter of this year compared with the first, suggesting that the slowdown has more or less skipped climate tech.

Proptech Startup Belong Flees Bay Area For 'Less Ideological' Miami
A Bay Area real estate startup has announced its plans to depart the South Bay for Miami, citing its “less ideological” nature as one of the key reasons. The rental tech company Belong, headquartered in San Mateo, announced its plans to move to the Magic City last week. While it’s not an uncommon phenomenon — in recent years, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has made an aggressive push to court tech and crypto firms — the rhetoric behind the move is new. Belong CEO and co-founder Ale Resnik said in a statement that the city “represents a glimpse at a possible future of the USA. One that’s multicultural, more pragmatic, and less ideological. This is an ecosystem where consumer tech can blossom.”

CarePredict's Wearable Allows Care For Your Elderly Loved Ones From A Distance
Taking care of aging relatives can leave you feeling frustrated and out of the loop. That’s how Satish Movva felt caring for his then-octogenarian parents. When he would call them every day, they would say that everything was fine. But once he visited in person, he would be met with a different story. “I would end up having to take them to the hospital or to a specialist,” Movva told Refresh Miami. “This unpredictability was wreaking havoc on my life.” Movva began to devise a solution in the form of a wearable through his company CarePredict, which he founded in 2013. Strapped to a patient’s dominant arm, it tracks all the senior’s actions. Think of it as a FitBit on steroids – and tailored to the needs of seniors, their family members, and their medical team. Every day, CarePredict’s device collects thousands of data points on each user. Leveraging deep learning algorithms, CarePredict has connected the dots between specific activities and health outcomes.

Muck Rack, The Journalist Database, Raises $180M In First Outside Funding
For any journalist who has ever googled their name, or for anyone else who has ever googled a journalist’s name, there is a good chance that one of the top hits will be for Muck Rack, a database that trawls social media, online publications and other expanses of the internet to compile lists of people, and what they cover and where, a tool used by public relations pros, marketers and others who want to find and connect with them. Today, Muck Rack is making another kind of connection, with investors: It’s raised $180 million in what it’s describing as its first outside funding, having been bootstrapped since being founded back in 2009. The company, based out of Miami, also provides a range of other tools for the media professional — including media monitoring, reporting and analytics and collaboration and pitching tools that it introduced in 2011, after running for two years solely as a journalist database — and as such is more generally part of the world of business intelligence, specifically in the media category, and competes with the likes of Cision, Meltwater, Brandwatch and perhaps to some extent more targeted services like TechMeme.
