Kaseya Takes Over Naming Rights To Miami Heat Arena
The Miami Heat, Miami-Dade County and Kaseya, a global software firm headquartered in the City of Miami, have finalized an agreement to take over the naming rights of the Miami-Dade Arena, according to a team spokesperson. The arena will be known as the Kaseya Center through 2040 as per the terms of the agreement. Miami-Dade County, which owns the property at 601 Biscayne in downtown Miami, had been seeking a new agreement since FTX, the previous naming rights partner, had declared bankruptcy earlier this year. The Board of County Commission passed a resolution to accept Kaseya’s proposed bid.

Miami Startup Brings In The Smart Tech To Ease Property Management Burdens
The dishwasher is broken. Who are you going to call? Whether you are the tenant or the guest, the landlord or the property manager, managing and maintaining a leased or short-term rental property isn’t easy. Yari Carrizo and Daniel Detoni are on a mission to reimagine property management. With their technology startup, Tennts, the founders aim to help landlords optimize the potential of their properties and improve the rental experience for tenants. Their platform connects all the stakeholders of a property to make reporting maintenance issues, scheduling repairs or cleaning services, and sending or receiving rental payments as seamless as possible. With the explosion of interest in short-term rentals, one of the features of the platform is that it is easy for the property owner to switch between short- and long-term leasing, use dynamic pricing, advertise, and track their performance in real time. Carrizo, co-founder and chief operating officer, represented Tennts at the annual Miami Herald Pitch Competition and won top honors in the contest’s Florida International University track.

Miami Among Top Hubs For New Startups
Move over, Austin. Miami is officially a prime location for new startups. The Miami-area ranks No. 4 in an analysis of U.S. startups hubs, according to Stripe, a financial services platform headquartered in San Francisco and Dublin, Ireland. The region came in behind the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City and Los Angeles and ahead of Austin, Texas. Stripe reports Miami has gained a striking number of breakout startups, defined as new companies "with unusually rapid revenue ramps." The number of breakout companies in Miami were up 89% in 2021-2022 compared to 2016-2017. The report did not specify any of the local breakout ventures by name. The data demonstrates that a rising number of fast-growing startups are forming outside of longtime hubs. Last year, only a quarter of all breakout startups were based in California, down from 31% in 2018. And more businesses are leaving the city of San Francisco: 46% of Bay Area startups were located in the Golden Gate City in 2022, compared to 63% in the three years before the Covid-19 pandemic.

North Miami Hopes To Attract Minority-Owned Companies With Training
North Miami is hosting a bootcamp for owners of tech startups and businesses, with the hopes of laying the groundwork for the city to become a tech hub and attract companies to the area. The program called NoMi Tech is a partnership with Lightship Foundation, an organization that provides resources and support to tech business founders from diverse backgrounds. The organization runs a bootcamp to help startups and other tech companies, and through its funding arm, Lightship Capital, offers financial help to firms, including some that have gone through the bootcamp accelerator. The city’s partnership with the foundation is roughly $140,000 for the first year. North Miami is the latest city added to Lightship’s bootcamp series. In the past five years, the predominantly Black city has seen steady job growth, according to data from the Miami-Dade Beacon Council. Last year, the top two leading business sectors in the city were retail and professional, scientific and technical services.

Miami-Based Ironhack Grows Global Bootcamp Network In 10 Years
Ariel Quinones was bullish on #MiamiTech before it was cool.10 years ago, after finishing an MBA at the University of Pennsylvania, Quinones moved to Spain to launch Ironhack: a coding school that has bootcamps for web development, UX/UI, data analytics and more. Alongside co-founder Gonzalo Manrique, within two years Quinones and team conquered the Madrid and Barcelona markets. Education and entrepreneurship always ran through Quinones’ blood. “My mom was a school teacher, and my dad was a university professor turned administrator turned traditional educational entrepreneur,” said Quinones. “I was always deeply touched by their work and the impact they had on thousands of students’ lives.” Through Ironhack, Quinones is now able to do the same. Since its inception, Ironhack has trained 15,000 alumni. The school is now active in 10 cities: seven in Europe and three in the Americas. About a dozen of its 190 employees are based in South Florida.
