How Miami-Based PINCHO Is Leveraging Tech, Loyalty To Ramp Up Growth
One of the best things about the restaurant industry is the willingness among leaders to share best practices with their peers, no matter if they’re competitors. CREATE, NRN’s upcoming live event in Denver, where everyone from major chain CEOs to emerging concept founders, will come together to share their stories, innovations and insights on navigating challenges related to the pandemic, inflation, supply chain, labor and much more. One of those leaders is Otto Othman, cofounder and CEO of the Miami-based burger and kebab joint PINCHO. Othman joined the latest episode of Take-Away with Sam Oches to tell us how he’s built a robust tech stack at his emerging brand, how the brand has managed to do its best business during the COVID-19 pandemic, and why he decided to take an injection of capital to fuel PINCHO’s national growth.

Tech’s Offshore Hiring Has Gone Into Overdrive
In the past year, Sebastián, a developer based in Ecuador, has received more LinkedIn messages from recruiters trying to poach him than ever before. One particular message caught his eye: It was from a Miami-based delivery startup. Sebastián, who asked that his last name not be used to avoid jeopardizing his current employment, was excited by the potential growth opportunity. A 2022 report from tech services company Commit estimated that offshoring software development roles would increase by 70 percent over the next year. Some companies, like Coinbase and Shopify, have already hired aggressively outside the US to fill open technical roles. To help facilitate this process, companies like Terminal and Telescoped vet developers and startups and then provide benefits like health insurance, pay local taxes on behalf of the developers, and ensure the developers receive perks like paid time off and equity.

For Miami, What Does It Mean To Be The Buzzy New Hub In A Remote World?
Among cities seeing the highest growth in startup funding, Miami is truly having its moment in the sun. Rising buzz comes as regional funding is on a tear. Seed and early stage investment in Florida companies has already surpassed $2 billion in 2022, per Crunchbase data, and is on track to eclipse even last year’s record-setting levels.
Miami companies have played the biggest role in boosting totals. Up-and-comers with headquarters in the city include MoonPay, Yuga Labs and Recurrent Ventures, which collectively raised $1.2 billion in private funding this past year alone. They’re the kinds of numbers that one might envision having a ripple effect across local labor markets, office rents and even commuter traffic. Well, except there’s this to consider: None of the above-listed companies require employees to actually show up for work at their Miami headquarters.
