Twitter's Jack Dorsey Steps Down from CEO Role
|
Jack Dorsey stepped down on Monday as chief executive of Twitter, the social media site he co-founded in 2006 and guided through the tumultuous years of the Trump administration and increasing calls for regulation from lawmakers around the world. He was replaced by Parag Agrawal, the company’s current chief technology officer who has recently been working on technologies associated with cryptocurrencies, which have become a fascination of the tech industry’s power brokers, including Mr. Dorsey.

South Florida Luring First Massive Crypto Mining Operation
|
Miami-Dade may soon be getting its first industrial Bitcoin mining facility operation. The city of Homestead is in talks to welcome a $15 million Bitcoin mining plant with thousands of computers that would use 10 megawatts of power — the equivalent to demand from at least 2,000 homes. Mayor Steven Losner does not flinch at that wattage, saying in an interview with the Miami Herald that it would be the same as any other industrial group coming in and creating jobs and economic opportunity — though the exact number of jobs and economic impact from the Bitcoin mining are still being tabulated.

Jefa Raises $2MM To Offer Digital Accounts for Women In LATAM
|
Fintech startup Jefa has raised a $2 million seed round to build a fintech startup offering digital accounts with a product specifically designed for women living in Latin America and the Caribbean. The company has managed to attract 115,000 women on its waitlist and participated in TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield last year. In addition to this founding round, the startup has also signed a deal with Visa. It’s a multi-year strategic partnership agreement. Jefa will be able to take advantage of Visa’s resources and products to create its payment products and more.

Apollo Bank Promotes & Hires New Leadership to Meet Growing Demand
|
As South Florida welcomes businesses and executives seeking to build wealth, Miami-based Apollo Bank is investing in talent to meet strong demand for banking services. The community bank announced seven leadership hires to support its commercial lending, branch operations and digital services. It also promoted three longtime team members in its market leadership, human resources and corporate affairs, and global banking divisions. Notably, women comprise six of the 10 recent leadership appointments at Apollo, falling in line with the bank’s mission to bring more diverse candidates into its network.

Blockchain-focused Borderless Capital Closes $10M Fund
|
Borderless Capital, the Miami-based crypto-currency focused venture capital firm, said it has closed its PLANETS.Fund, a $10 million fund that aims to build a “green data economy.” The fund will invest in PlanetWatch, the world’s first decentralized indoor and outdoor air quality monitoring network built on the Algorand blockchain, the crypto ecosystem where Borderless Capital focuses most of its investments. Borderless Capital anchored the PLANETS.Fund with a $1 million investment and SkyBridge, JUMP Capital, Kenetic Capital, Algorand Inc, Meld Ventures, Youbi Capital and individual investors participated in the fund, the firm said.
