A Gut Check For Artificial Intelligence
Startups are applying artificial intelligence to just about everything, including the bugs in your gut. The trillions of microbes in the body—the microbiome—aid digestion, synthesize vitamins and perform other functions. Startups are marketing consumer tests that analyze the microbiome and recommend actions, such as dietary changes, to relieve digestive symptoms and optimize the gut’s microbial population. Some experts caution that the science of microbiome testing and analysis is nascent, and variations in microbial populations among healthy individuals complicate defining what constitutes a healthy microbiome. Proponents say microbiome tests can already be used to tailor diets to better-manage conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Empowering Women In Tech And Dismantling Gender Stereotypes
Microsoft recently made headlines by promoting Sarah Bond to President of Xbox, marking a significant moment for diversity and inclusion. Bond’s remarkable achievement is just one example of the rising wave of Black women who are making their presence felt in the tech world. Once Bobby Kotick, the Xbox CEO of Activision Blizzard, departs at the end of 2023, the leadership changes at Xbox will result in a greater representation of women in gaming leadership roles at Microsoft compared to men. Sarah Bond’s appointment as President of Xbox sends a powerful message – representation matters. As the tech industry continues to diversify, it becomes increasingly vital for aspiring Black women to find the support and resources they need to excel.

Bumble Founder + CEO To Step Down Early Next Year, Slack Chief Executive To Succeed Her
Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder and CEO of the dating app Bumble, is stepping down from her role at the helm of the company early next year. Bumble requires women to make the first move with dating prospects, and Wolfe Herd founded the company in 2014 as a way to create an empowering and safe online dating space. She will be succeeded by Lidiane Jones, CEO of Salesforce’s cloud-based messaging platform Slack, on Jan. 2, 2024, according to a company release Monday. Jones secured the top job at Slack earlier this year after holding other executive roles at Salesforce and spending more than a decade at Microsoft. She said she has “long admired” Bumble’s mission and is looking forward to driving “long-term, sustainable growth” at the company.

What Does Entrepreneurial Excellence Mean Today?
From Ford to Musk, the image of the successful entrepreneur has often been intertwined with a set of traditional ideals: unyielding confidence, unwavering determination and an unrelenting pursuit of success. Those characteristics of excellence have shaped our perception of what it means to be a successful entrepreneur for generations. However, a generational shift in the definition of excellence is becoming all too apparent as the once-unquestionable benchmarks of success, such as wealth, fame and power, have begun to coexist with qualities that transcend the headlines — qualities like personal growth, empathy and a commitment to lasting values. Additionally, an increasing number of successful female entrepreneurs are also calling into question masculine gatekeeping of definitions of entrepreneurial excellence. Numerous social pressures, along with rapid technological change, are causing many of us to contemplate what it actually means to pursue "excellence" or "greatness" today.
