Florida Startups Among List Of World's Top Fintech Companies
U.S. companies make up more than half of CB Insights' new list of the world's 250 most promising financial tech startups – including four with South Florida ties. Fifty-three percent of the companies on the list are based in the United States, the fewest since CB Insights, a database that tracks private companies and investor activity, launched the Fintech 250 in 2017. The United Kingdom came in second with 12%, followed by India (6%), Brazil (4%) and Germany (3%). The businesses on the list have collectively raised more than $115 billion in equity funding since 2017, including $51 billion in 2021 alone. Nearly two-thirds of the selected ventures are repeat winners, leaving only 90 new winners in 2022.

Celebrating Latina Founders, Innovators, And Technologists
Latinas are doing incredible things in technology. They are founding companies, creating new products, and leading innovation. They stand at the forefront of the future of tech, and they do this despite only holding 2% of technology jobs, with that representation dropping by an additional 28% just one step up the management ladder. 32% of women of Latin heritage say they feel stalled at work, and technology has the lowest rate of Latin participants out of all of STEM areas. We have an opportunity to improve Latina representation in the tech industry. The challenge is overcoming a feeling like they don’t have a path to leadership or a chance to grow in their professions. This barrier leads to over half leaving their positions by mid-career.

Meta’s Next Enterprise Push Is Into The Metaverse
Earlier this year, when the news that Meta had signed on with fast food giant McDonald’s as a customer for Workplace, the B2B service that was originally conceived as a Facebook for enterprises, we noted that Workplace the product had, curiously, been moved into a larger “Reality Labs” division to bring it closer to Meta’s VR business. Meta is announced some new developments that speak to this pivot: a raft of enterprise services aimed at a new effort to get businesses using its new, high-spec $1,499 Meta Quest Pro VR headsets in the workplace. They include a new version of the company’s Horizon Workrooms, and partnerships with Microsoft, Accenture, Adobe and Autodesk to build out more enterprise-ready and designer-ready VR services.
