eMerge Americas Sees Its Global Tech Hub Vision Coming To Life
Ten years ago this month, serial entrepreneur Manny Medina announced his vision publicly for eMerge Americas. At the time, he saw no reason why Miami couldn’t be a global tech hub if the community put in the work together. He also believed the eMerge Americas conference could help do for tech what Art Basel did for the Miami arts scene. Manny Medina’s vision for eMerge Americas as a catalyst for a global tech hub was on full display at the signature tech conference that attracted a record crowd of over 20,000 people from 4,000 companies and 50 countries and featured more than 200 speakers. Worth noting, the speaker lineup and the attendees represented authentic and intentional diversity, with women and people of color well represented.

Miami Can Bridge its Tech-Skills Gap While Fueling Innovation And Growth
We think of Generation Z as being more tech-savvy than previous generations. They were born after the advent of the internet and don’t remember a time before cell phones. However, in the workplace, they often aren’t prepared to deal with the rapid automation boom sweeping corporate offices worldwide, in fact, 68% of C-suite executives see a gap between candidate skills and job requirements. For minority groups who face additional educational and professional barriers, this gap is growing even wider. If our next generation of leaders can’t gain the skills and support they need to succeed, we all risk falling behind as strategic competitors. This skill gap often is caused by a lack of hands-on training and practical curriculum at the college level, plus a failure to cultivate the most in-demand workplace technology skills in all fields of study.

Robot Pepper Welcomes Crowd To Opening Day Of eMerge Americas
Being greeted by a 5-foot-tall robot while a DJ plays loud dance music seems natural entering a nightclub on South Beach, not a tech conference. True to its Miami roots, eMerge Americas is not your average tech gathering. The global tech event that opened in Miami Beach Convention Center celebrates Miami’s emergence as a tech hub and gateway to the Americas. Pepper is one of many robots used at Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation, a place designed to support entrepreneurship on Nova Southeastern University’s Broward campus. Pepper welcomes visitors at the center, effectively doing the job of a receptionist. Pepper also gives visitors tours of the center, said NSU innovation center programmer Desmond Cox, who works in the university’s makers lab to support entrepreneurs.
