Tech Basel Summit: An Eye On The Future And Miami’s Part In It
At the Tech Basel Summit, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez was asked to describe Miami in one word. He picked “future.” The future – both Miami’s future as a thriving tech hub and world-class metropolis and the future of technology more broadly – was a front and center theme throughout the “Tech Basel” slice of Miami Art Week. Whether it was conversations on stages about AI, quantum computing, the future of NFTs, the rise of digital art and museums without walls, or the endless convos at happy hours, private dinners and VIP parties about how far Miami Tech has come and where it’s going, it seemed to always come back to “the best is yet to come.” Tim Draper, in a fireside chat with founder Natalia Karayaneva of Miami startup Propy, talked about Miami and its future at the Tech Basel Summit. “Congratulations to all of you … this place is on fire,” said the renowned investor, who spoke at the Tech Basel Summit. He has also put some of his money in Miami Tech startups – including Propy and in Wisecut.

Miami-Dade Innovation Authority Launches Second Public Innovation Challenge In Collaboration With Miami International Airport
MDIA is seeking proposals from both local and global technology companies that offer new and creative solutions to improve the airport experience for both passengers and staff across several specific focus areas. In collaboration with Miami International Airport (MIA) and Miami-Dade County, MDIA will select at least three (3) early-to-growth stage technology start-ups and provide $100,000 in funding to each company to support testing of solutions at the airport, so they can be scaled to airports globally afterwards. Among the world’s most forward-thinking airports in elevating the passenger experience, MIA is building upon existing initiatives with the Public Innovation Challenge, including myMIAccess, an award-winning dedicated online platform connecting passengers with accessibility services and amenities. Simultaneously, MIA is undertaking Florida’s largest-ever energy conservation project to align with Miami-Dade County’s Climate Action Strategy and reduce environmental impact.

AI Is Helping New Parents Apply For Paid Leave
A free online tool taps generative AI to help new moms and others in New York figure out whether they're eligible for paid family leave and guides them through the application process. Paidleave.ai aims to solve one challenge while providing a pathway for others to harness generative AI to navigate complicated bureaucracies. It's the latest effort from Moms First, a nonprofit started by Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani. Saujani conceived the tool under the auspices of Moms First and developed it with support from Craig Newmark Philanthropies and technical work from AI startup Novy. The system uses OpenAI's GPT-4 to help parse the query, do any language translation and then help a person determine whether they're eligible for paid leave and what forms and other information they need to gather.

A New York City Finance CEO Explains Why His Company And All Of Its Staff Relocated To Miami
There's a debate brewing about the future of New York City as the financial center of the world — and over which city could replace it. While Manhattan is home to Wall Street and its mainstays, a question has come up in recent years as to whether the longstanding finance capital is destined to shift south. Billionaire Ken Griffin said in November that Miami could soon overtake New York City as the dominant hub for markets and finance professionals. He moved the headquarters of his hedge fund, Citadel, to the Sunshine State last year from Chicago. To Rahul Sen Sharma, the New York-based president and co-chief executive of Indxx, a financial markets index provider and data firm, it's no longer a question as to where he wants to live for work. Every single employee at his company is now based in Miami, and he plans to join them in early 2024.
