eMerge Americas Launches The Startup Studio In Partnership With City National Bank Of Florida
|
eMerge Americas, producer of Miami’s premier tech conference and other programs, has formally launched a program aiming to help bridge the funding gap for minority founders. It’s called The Startup Studio and City National Bank of Florida is supporting it with grants to founders. The new program was briefly announced at the two-day La Casa event last week (pictured above) but now we have the details to share.

Melinda Gates To Spend Millions On Women In Miami’s Tech Sector
|
A national effort backed financially by billionaire philanthropist Melinda French Gates to advance gender equity in the technology industry is coming to Miami. Called the Gender Equality in Tech, Gates’ Pivotal Ventures said Thursday it plans to bring the initiative here as part of the company’s broader $50 million investment in gender equality in tech.
The goal of GET Miami is to place more women, particularly those of color, into education and internship programs to prepare them for careers and leadership roles in Miami’s burgeoning tech sector.

Miami Beach Property Sellers To Accept Cryptocurrency
|
Developer Scott Robins and his partner, former Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine, are accepting cryptocurrency for two properties they're selling on South Beach's Alton Road corridor. Robins' son Jared, founder of Miami Beach-based brokerage InHouse Commercial, said he's partnering with FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange based in the Bahamas that purchased the naming rights of the former AmericanAirlines Arena in March and has an office in Brickell. Property Markets Group accepted cryptocurrency for condo presales for the first phase of its E11even Hotel and Residences project in Miami.

Miami Now The Top Growing ‘Talent Magnet’ In America
|
New analysis by LinkedIn reports that Miami is now the top growing metro area in the U.S. The study looked at the number of LinkedIn members changing their profile location between November 2020 and October 2021, compared to the same period in the prior year. Miami saw the highest growth, ranking above any city on the list of what LinkedIn calls “talent-magnet metros.” Florida in general has become a talent and population magnet. Four out of the five top cities on LinkedIn’s list were in the state, including Jacksonville, Tampa, and Orlando.

Reddit To Roll Out Personalized End-Of-Year Recap
|
Reddit is launching a new personalized Spotify Wrapped-like recap feature for all users. The new recaps will include a variety of stats, including a summary of the time you spent on the platform, a look at the content that you interacted with or contributed, topics you engaged with and communities you’ve viewed or joined. Reddit notes that users will be able to hide their username and avatar if they want when sharing the recap across other social media apps. End-of-year recaps have become increasingly popular thanks to Spotify’s annual Wrapped feature that is widely shared across social media each year.

January 7th| City National Bank + eMerge Americas
City National Bank and eMerge Americas will select ~20 early stage startups based in Florida and with diverse founders to participate in a thoughtfully curated CNB Startup Studio program. If you are a minority founder and based in Florida this is the opportunity for you to connect with industry leaders, propel your startup to the next level and a chance to win up to $25,000! The top 5-7 startups will be chosen to participate in a closing event during the week of February 16th, 2022. Ultimately, there will be three startups chosen: 1st place will receive a $25,000 grant, 2nd place will receive a $15,000 grant and third place will receive a $10,000 grant - all provided by City National Bank.
