eMerge Americas Launches eMerge Insights: 2022 Annual Report
|
Despite a tumultuous year for funding across the nation, Florida and the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metro area saw a rise in investments. The latest edition of eMerge Insights, published in partnership with Knight Foundation and Florida International University, is an overview of the exponential growth and resiliency of our local tech ecosystem. Notable highlights include:
- $5.81 billion was invested in South Florida startups and later-stage companies in 2022. Compare that to $5.33 billion in 2021.
-
Startups based in the Greater Miami metro area snagged 71% of the state’s venture capital take in dollars and over 61% of the VC deals.
-
The Miami metro ranks 7th in the nation, and the state of Florida tied for sixth.
-
In 2022, fundraising by VC firms was also a bright spot for South Florida, hitting $5.07 billion, up from $497 million in 2021

What Is ChatGPT-4 And How To Use It Right Now: Everything You Need To Know
|
It’s been a mere four months since artificial intelligence company OpenAI unleashed ChatGPT and — not to overstate its importance — changed the world forever. In just 15 short weeks, it has sparked doomsday predictions in global job markets, disrupted education systems and drawn millions of users, from big banks to app developers. But now it’s goodbye to ChatGPT and hello ChatGPT-4 — an even more powerful tool, sure to send even bigger ripples across the world. So what is GPT-4, how powerful is it, and how can you use it? Here’s everything you need to know. Let’s start with the name. The Chat section speaks for itself — a computer interface you can interact with — while GPT-4 is short for “generative pretrained transformer 4.” That means it’s the fourth iteration of the OpenAI software that has analyzed vast quantities of information from across the internet in order to determine how to generate human-sounding text and give users detailed responses to questions.

NASA Unveils New Spacesuits Astronauts Will Wear To The Moon
|
NASA has revealed the new spacesuit that astronauts will wear to explore the Moon under the Artemis program. Created by Axiom Space, the new suit is designed to improve mobility for astronauts working on the lunar surface. Developed for the Artemis III mission, which will see the first woman and person of color walking on the Moon, the prototype suit was revealed at an event on Wednesday, March 15th. The prototype includes a dark gray cover, which was designed by costume designer Esther Marquis, who worked on the TV series For All Mankind, but the actual suit will be white for thermal reasons. “NASA’s partnership with Axiom is critical to landing astronauts on the Moon and continuing American leadership in space. Building on NASA’s years of research and expertise, Axiom’s next generation spacesuits will not only enable the first woman to walk on the Moon, but they will also open opportunities for more people to explore and conduct science on the Moon than ever before,” NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in a statement.
