Techstars Accelerator Program Taps Miami Startups
|
A dozen startups have been chosen to participate in a tech accelerator program in Miami that will provide seed money, networking and mentoring to fledgling companies. The money will support about 400 companies, with a focus on diversity - about 75% of CEOs chosen for the program identify as Black, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous American and/or Pacific Islander. Miami is one of five cities where the program will launch first. "Miami is the base and desired destination for founders across all industries," said Andres Barreto, managing director of Techstars Miami. "Although it's known for the boom in web3 and fintech, we also found companies across industries as diverse as health care, logistics, robotics, and edtech."

JRZY Building Digital Community For Athletes
|
The problem: connections through sports can often happen in a silo – on the field, on the court, in a group chat with friends. But Hall wanted a way to build a community around sports at scale. In 2020, alongside co-founder Madison Savarese, Issa Hall launched JRZY, a hub for athletes to own their brand and connect with the broader athletic community. “The mission of JRZY is simple: connect the world’s athletes to make them more productive and successful,” said Hall. JRZY’s platform is focused on three aspects. Top of the list: community. Through JRZY, athletes can meet, learn about, and interact with each other. They are able to create a LinkedIn-style ‘resume’ showcasing their experience. And they can meet fans and network with potential sponsors. The second aspect is product. JRZY has a marketplace where users can offer and purchase goods and services. NFTs are at the core of their product initiative, enabling users to create and sell digital trading cards through their platform.

Online bootcamps and learning programs are becoming a popular way for people to learn new skill sets that can jumpstart their careers. However, combing through the internet to find the program that meets your career objectives can be a challenge. That's where Career Karma comes in. The website considers a user's job history, skills and career goals and then matches them with one of hundreds of tech bootcamps or training programs available on its marketplace. The startup is setting its sights on new goals as it scales. In January, Career Karma raised $40 million in a series B round stacked with investors, including Google Ventures, SoftBank and Y Combinator. Now, the company is partnering with businesses to connect employees and contractors with job training programs that can help them advance to the next stage of their careers.
