8base Secures $10.6M To Accelerate The Growth Of Its Low-Code Platform

Miami-based low-code development platform 8base today announced a $10.6M Series A capital raise. The oversubscribed round was led by Foundry Group with participation from MongoDB Ventures, Techstars, Firebrand Ventures, 11 Tribes Ventures, Argonautic Ventures, LAGO Innovation Fund, and Strawberry Creek Ventures, an Alumni Ventures. 8base offers a platform that enables developers to build JavaScript applications 10X-50X more quickly than traditional development processes. Albert Santalo, 8base’s founder and CEO, told Refresh Miami that this funding will enable the company to pivot from bootstrapping mode to growth mode. To further unlock 8base’s growth potential, Santalo plans to triple the size of his team within the next 12 months. While the company will be hiring across the board, Santalo said that there will be a particular emphasis on marketing, product, and design roles.

Miami Tech Takes Off With Record-Breaking Venture Capital Funding
|
South Florida is officially a rising star in the U.S. technology scene, with more money than ever pouring into new firms in the tri-county area.
Local investors say the numbers prove what they knew all along: The Miami metropolitan area has the potential to become one of the globe’s leading tech economies. A record-breaking $4 billion in venture capital investment flooded into local tech startups in 2021 – double the prior year’s funding. The Covid-19 pandemic helped, as South Florida served as a relocation destination for out-of-state entrepreneurs escaping strict mask and vaccine mandates, a trend that put Miami tech on the map. The region has continued to draw new companies and investors ever since. And money. Lots of it. Early-stage startups secured more funding than ever, bolstered by multimillion-dollar seed and series A and B rounds.

Today, Truora describes itself as a SaaS startup that builds authentication and communication tools for Latin American startups, marketplaces, fintechs and banks. It specializes in user authentication and onboarding, mainly through WhatsApp. Its technology includes automated onboarding with features such as automated chatbot conversations, facial recognition, document verification and background checks. 'We Became Like A Big Startup': How Kyiv Adapted The City's Tech To Save Lives
|
For the past five weeks, Polovynko and his boss, Kyiv’s deputy mayor and chief digital transformation officer Petro Olenych, have led an exhaustive effort to adapt and repurpose everyday technology for a city that has found itself facing a 20th-century-style war. Their creative maneuvers are a key reason that most residents of the Ukrainian capital can connect to the Internet in underground bomb shelters, find open pharmacies and grocery stores, and go to sleep knowing their phone will alert them of incoming air raids before the physical sirens sound. The popular Kyiv Digital smartphone app, which residents previously used to pay utility bills and parking tickets, now gives them a map of the closest bomb shelters and places to get critical supplies like insulin, food or gasoline. Notifications for the closure of a local metro stop for repairs have given way to warnings of incoming air raids.
