A Note From Felice Gorordo: The Year Ahead - Miami's Renaissance
Since 2014, eMerge Americas has been leading the charge to transform Miami into a global tech hub, and there has never been a more exciting time to be part of the incredible South Florida tech ecosystem. According to a recent article by the Wall Street Journal, “Miami has ‘caught a wave’ and [has become] the hot new tech hub.” Miami is now #1 in the nation for tech job growth and migration with 300,000 people moving to our great state during the pandemic, and we have led the nation in net income migration gaining $20 billion from 2019–2020 (WSJ). As I was quoted in Fortune Magazine, “Miami is going through a renaissance at all levels, but especially in terms of technology.” And our work is just getting started.

Three Miami Brothers Built An Animation App Children Are Using To Create Digital Images On Phones, Tablets
Remember the long days in Algebra class when drawing on corner pages of textbooks and flipping through the drawings was the best escape from boredom? There’s an app for that. FlipaClip is a free flipbook-style animation app for phones and tablets. It aims to make drawing and animation approachable to the next generation by meeting them on the devices they already use. The app was created by three brothers who run the Miami company Visual Blasters. The Argentinian-born siblings, Marcos Meson, 43, Jonathan Meson, 38, and Tim Meson, 31, launched FlipaClip in 2012, finally completing a lifelong dream.

Tiger Global, YC Back Rebill's Subscription Payment Platform For Latin America
Rebill, an Argentina-based startup, raised $3.6 million to continue building automated payment collection and subscription management tools for Latin America. The company automates the collection process and integrates payment gateways and invoicing tools so that customers don’t have to create their own. Rebill differs from legacy providers in that it is targeting medium to large companies, is cloud-based and sold on a subscription basis so customers just have to pay a license fee. Currently, Rebill has clients in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay and collects payments in 15 currencies. By having a multi-country, multi-currency approach, the company is growing alongside its customers, who can take advantage of the cloud-based feature to scale their sales regionally in a similar way. The new funding enables Rebill to continue expanding its presence into the rest of Latin America.

FIU, Blockchain.com Partner To Better Prepare Students For Crypto, Tech Jobs
As Miami continues to emerge as a hub for tech and cryptocurrency jobs, Florida International University and Blockchain.com are collaborating to better prepare students and FIU alumni for professional opportunities in the technology industry. The partnership is the latest example of many ongoing efforts here to prepare Miami residents for tech jobs, so that companies don’t have to rely on hiring people from other states to work remotely or requiring employees in other parts of the country to relocate to South Florida. Lane Kasselman, Blockchain’s chief business officer, sees his firm’s collaboration with FIU as a way for the company to provide more educational opportunities in cryptocurrency to South Florida residents. By partnering with FIU, he’s hopeful the school’s diversity will reflect in the students that learn about crypto through the partnership. Kasselman thinks that crypto is lagging behind the tech sector in terms of increasing employee diversity.

eMerge Americas Featured In Fortune Magazine
Miami's transition to becoming a global tech hub took great strides in the past few years. With an increase in work-from-home positions, Florida's desirable climate and lack of income tax, 20,263 high-earners took the opportunity to join the Sunshine State. That's four times more than the number of high-rollers the second most popular place attracted: Texas, which saw a net migration rate of 5,356 households! The influx of new residents bring with them the establishment of various company headquarters, fresh ideas and new growth opportunities for the city of Miami. eMerge Americas' CEO Felice Gorordo shared that, “Miami is going through a renaissance at all levels, but especially in terms of technology.”
