UrbanX Air Vows Electric Miami Commuter Flights In 2026
UrbanX Air has plans to bring Urban Air Mobility (UAM) to Miami by launching electric commuter flights throughout South Florida. Beginning in 2026, the new flight initiative marks a pivotal initial phase in making electric air commuting a reality for South Florida residents. The global crossing airline is collaborating with state officials, infrastructure, energy and technology providers to establish the necessary framework for launching electric vertical takeoff and landing eVTOL aircraft flights. The flights will help commuters navigate short distances, avoiding traffic congestion and improving travel times while providing a safer, faster and more sustainable mode of transportation, the company said. With the delivery of its first 10 eVTOLs expected in 2026, UrbanX says it plans to be the first to bring innovative aircraft technology to South Florida and revolutionize urban transportation in the region.

UM Students, Faculty Members Participate At UN Climate Talks
Vanessa Forbes-Pateman does not need a meteorologist or computer model to tell her that anthropogenic climate change already is having a catastrophic impact on the planet. The University of Miami doctoral student from Freeport, Bahamas, has experienced it firsthand in the form of more powerful tropical cyclones that have battered her homeland. Forbes-Pateman is attending the United Nations climate summit—the 28th annual Conference of Parties, known as COP28—as both a concerned citizen of a small island vulnerable to the effects of climate change and as a researcher who wants to make a difference in saving the planet. She is one of more than a dozen University of Miami students, along with key faculty members and an urban resilience champion, who have traveled to Dubai for the two-week conference, where United Nations member states convene to review progress and reach agreements on international climate change policies and actions.

Google, Amazon Alums Launch Portland Startup To Help Kids Navigate The Internet
Seth Raphael has spent decades working in tech. The last 10 years he was at Google where he built the first version of Google Photos and then ran teams in prototyping, augmented and virtual reality, and productivity tools. He also has five kids. His latest project combines those two elements. Hello Wonder is designed to help children navigate the internet in a safe and healthy way while giving parents, like himself, an ability to not only see what their kids are interested in but set controls when needed. Wonder is a kind of AI assistant for kids that helps them navigate the internet as an interactive user interface. Wonder can feed websites and videos to children based on queries or answers to questions Wonder asks the child. It can also see what a child is doing and ask comprehension questions of the child or set reminders, like getting a homework assignment done.
