Founders Of Miami Tech 'Unicorn' To Step Down As Search For New CEO Begins
The three founders of financial tech startup Pipe are resigning from their executive roles. Co-founder and and co-CEO Harry Hurst will move into a vice chairman role at the Miami-based company. Josh Mangel, who is also a co-founder and co-CEO, will act as chief executive while Pipe searches for a permanent replacement. Now, the startup is searching for a veteran CEO to lead the firm as it continues to scale, according to a news release. In a statement, Mangel said the strategy will help Pipe achieve its "next phase of sustained, long-term growth.” Mangel will transition to an executive chairman position when the new CEO is appointed. In addition, Co-founder Zain Allarkhia will no longer serve as CTO, but will remain as a senior advisor. The departure of its founders is a surprising move for Pipe, which reached a $2 billion valuation last May after completing a $250 million equity round, making it one of the world's top-funded fintech startups.

Lawyers See Crypto Regulations Coming In 2023, Industry Needs To Rebuild Trust
Despite an uneven year in the crypto markets, many market participants are unperturbed about the long-term health of the sector and say that legal frameworks in 2023 could restore trust in the industry. “Crypto will recover,” Katherine Dowling, general counsel member at Bitwise Asset Management, said to TechCrunch. “This is not the death of crypto.” Given the belief by many that crypto remains here to stay, it’s worth looking ahead. Crypto denizens certainly are — after the FTX collapse, questions circulated concerning crypto’s future and what regulators would do next. But disappointment in what FTX’s implosion represents is very hard to overstate, Yesha Yadav, professor of law and director of diversity, equity and community at Vanderbilt University, told TechCrunch. “The level of disillusionment and disappointment and sense of feeling deceived by FTX is so deep because it was seen as one of the most compliance-friendly institutions in the crypto economy and one that would be leading the regulatory efforts.”

20 Years After The First Art Basel, Miami Art Week Is Making Digital Moves
As Art Basel Miami Beach celebrates its 20th anniversary, thousands of art lovers, collectors, patrons and tourists will bask in old art by the masters and contemporary art that is essentially not “real.” Miami Art Week has grown in scale and scope. Alongside the usual satellite art fairs, the week’s schedule is teeming with tech-related events exploring the future of crypto, non-fungible tokens, interactive artworks and virtual reality. That reflects Miami’s greater goal of becoming the country’s emerging tech hub since the pandemic. If last year’s NFT craze was a hint, this year is the confirmation. The tech world’s grip on Miami Art Week is not a trend — it’s the norm.
