The Associated Press Starts Own NFT Marketplace For Photojournalism
|
The Associated Press, or AP, has announced that it’s starting a marketplace to sell NFTs of its photojournalists’ work in collaboration with a company called Xooa. It’s billing its foray into NFTs as a way for collectors to “purchase the news agency’s award-winning contemporary and historic photojournalism” and says that the virtual tokens will be released at “broad and inclusive price points”.

Magic Leap Targets Healthcare Customers With New AR Headset
|
Magic Leap selected four health technology companies – including one South Florida venture – to have early access to its new augmented reality headset. Miami-based Heru, an artificial intelligence powered platform to diagnose and correct vision problems, is among the ventures that will begin to work with a Magic Leap 2 before the product becomes commercially available later this year. The second-generation headset is a light weight, wearable computer that enables people to see, hear and touch digital content in the physical world.

New Venture Miami Tech Leader Talks Boosting Talent Growth, Diversity, Crypto
|
As the city enters the second year of capitalizing on the Miami tech movement, Mayor Suarez is doubling down on Venture Miami. Earlier this month, the mayor hired Erick Gavin, 29, as the full-time executive director. Gavin is a longtime player in Miami’s technology industry and is focusing his efforts on growing the Miami tech and innovation ecosystem, as well as closing gaps that exist in terms of the talent we’re trying to develop, among new and existing firms.

Rio de Janeiro Wants to Become Brazil’s Cryptocurrency Capital
|
Brazil’s tourist hot spot of Rio de Janeiro now wants to become the nation’s cryptocurrency capital, and plans to dedicate part of its reserves to digital money. In a decree published Friday, January 14, Rio mayor Eduardo Paes announced the creation of a working group to study ways to incentivize the use of crypto and boost the city economy, such as offering discounts when paying taxes with Bitcoin.

German Tech Company 1NCE Names Miami Its North American HQ
|
1NCE selected Miami as the location of its new North American headquarters and plans to hire up to 150 new employees. The firm is searching for office space in the area and will hire locally within the next three years, a spokesperson told the South Florida Business Journal. Founded in 2017, 1NCE is an Internet of Things (IoT) network carrier that provides service for a flat rate of $10 for 10 years.
