eMerge Americas 2022 Global Startup Showcase Presented By Algorand Is Now Accepting Applications
|
The eMerge Americas 2022 Startup Showcase is presented by Algorand, which builds technology that accelerates the convergence between decentralized and traditional finance by enabling the simple creation of next-generation financial products, protocols, and exchange of value. Through a competitive application process, eMerge will select 100 startups to participate in a robust multi-week program, which will culminate in a grand finale pitch competition on April 18-19, 2022. Participants will have a chance to win over $400,000 in investments: $250,000 investment by Florida Funders, $120,000 investment by Panoramic Ventures, $50,000 investment by eMerge, and with additional prizes to be announced in coming weeks! The deadline to apply is February 28, 2022.

The Rise Of Crypto Mayors
|
The ballooning popularity of Bitcoin and other digital currencies has given rise to a strange new political breed: the crypto mayor. Eric Adams, New York’s new mayor, accepted his first paycheck in Bitcoin and another cryptocurrency, Ether. Francis Suarez, Miami’s mayor, headlines crypto conferences. Now even mayors of smaller towns are trying to incorporate crypto into municipal government, courting start-ups and experimenting with buzzy new technologies like nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, to raise money for public projects.

VC Funding To Early-Stage Latinx-Founded Startups Has Stalled
|
Crunchbase data shows that while funding to Latinx founders has increased in dollar terms—from $1.7 billion in 2017 to $6.8 billion in 2021—that growth only slightly outpaced the overall increase in U.S. venture capital investments, leaving Latinx startup funding stuck stubbornly at around 2 percent of the overall startup investment pie. Meanwhile, the data shows early-stage funding, arguably the most critical phase, has stagnated almost completely in recent years.

ThriveDX Raises $100M To Train Workers For Digital Jobs Of The Future
|
ThriveDX aims to expand to new markets in the U.S., Europe and Asia after securing $100 million from Prytek, an investment company headquartered in Singapore. Coral Gables-based ThriveDX (formerly HackerU) is a digital skills bootcamp that partners with academic universities and businesses to train people for careers in technology. The company collaborates with institutions such as the University of Miami, New York University and the University of Michigan to train students for in-demand roles in cybersecurity, information security, digital marketing, software engineering and data science and analytics.

Cuban Founders Build EdTech Startup To Give Back

When the founders of Miami-based EdTech startup EducUp left their native Cuba and came to the US, they brought a lot of things: grit, determination, and top technical chops, to say the very least. What didn’t they come with? English proficiency. 2022 Endeavor Miami Programs

Endeavor Miami has opened applications to its 2022 Programs! Endeavor will be running their ScaleUp Program in spring and fall, and EndeavorLAB will feature four cohorts throughout the year. The first EndeavorLAB cohort will focus on assisting minority-led climate tech companies and is powered by Future of Cities and supported by SVB. The deadline to apply to the EndeavorLAB cohort is February 13th and the deadline to apply for the ScaleUp spring cohort is February 20th.
